Several Sam Houston–related buildings are located in a 15-acre park on the campus of Sam Houston State University, just south of downtown. The museum looks at the complex life of Houston, who won the decisive victory over Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto, but who was also removed as Texas governor after he opposed secession for the Union at the start of the Civil War. The site includes buildings associated with Houston when he lived here.
