Salem Pioneer Village

Massachusetts

This outdoor, interactive museum was opened in 1930 to celebrate the state's tercentennial. Although the place has not been well maintained (changing ownership several times in recent years), the village still gives visitors an idea of what daily living was like for the earliest settlers. Sometimes the place looks deserted from the outside: look for signs directing you to a back entrance.

Forest River Park is about 2 miles south of Salem center off MA 1A. Lots of talk about construction, expansion or moving, so check the Facebook page before going.
