This is Minnesota's oldest and deepest iron ore mine. Ore was worked continuously here from 1882 to when the mine closed in 1962. The tour includes a deep shaft descent a half-mile below ground and then a rail journey deeper into the mine. Be sure to wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, though they can be reserved in advance online. See the website for details.
