When Park MGM in Las Vegas reopens on 30 September, it will have the first fully smoke- and vape-free casino on the Strip. The practices also won't be permitted in its hotel and at NoMad Las Vegas, a boutique hotel on its upper floors.
The 2993-room casino resort closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Strip’s newest destination resort was completed in late 2018, and its most popular outlets include the Italian marketplace, Eataly, and Bavette’s Steakhouse. While there have been rumblings for a while that Park MGM was going to become the Strip's first entirely smoke-free casino, it has now been confirmed.
The move is somewhat unusual as Las Vegas casino resorts have been synonymous with smoking in the past, but life is different now and the move allies with the resort's brand of embracing nature. “As we looked toward our reopening, we identified an opportunity to be responsive to recurring guest demand for a fully non-smoking casino resort on the Strip," says Anton Nikodemus, president of MGM Resorts’ Las Vegas Portfolio.
Masks are required for all guests inside public spaces at all MGM Resorts properties across the US. A physical distancing policy has been implemented at the Las Vegas resort, and includes floor guides and plexiglass barriers. Contactless check-in and digital keys will be available through the MGM Resorts app, and digital food menus will be available to view on personal mobile devices, minimizing interactions. Handwashing stations will be located on casino floors, and electrostatic sprayers will be used in many large public spaces.
Further information can be found on the Park MGM resort's website here.
