Hundreds of thousands of people around the world today (20 September) have already taken part in protests to call for greater action against climate change.
Students in about 150 countries have taken part in the Global Climate Strike – leaving their classes to instead call attention to the climate crisis. Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old activist who has inspired students to walk out of classrooms in protest, is currently in New York and will attend the UN climate summit, which will be held in the city on Monday.
Young people have already been taking part in school strikes as part of the Fridays for Future initiatives. However, today's events are expecting to bring millions of people out into the streets. There is also a strike planned for 27 September, following the UN summit.
