Chinggis Khaan Obelisk

Mongolia

This not-so-subtle, enormous wedge-shaped white rock was placed in the middle of a ger camp in 1962 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Chinggis’ birth. This was at the height of the communist era, when Chinggis was officially viewed as a reactionary, but somehow the monument was allowed to stand.
