About Sara van

Born and raised in the Netherlands, I cut my teeth working as a travel blogger in NYC and went on to work for several print magazines. I was launching editor-in-chief of Lonely Planet magazine in the Netherlands until I decided to take the plunge and quit my job to become a freelance travel writer, to be able to travel for longer stretches again. 2020 was supposed to be my year of big trips, but that didn't turn out quite as planned. I became launching editor-in-chief of the travel app Polarsteps' Guides project instead and saved up money to buy an electric Fiat E-Ducato. Together with my partner, photographer Jurrien Veenstra, I'll convert the van to a fully electric campervan over the coming months and then we'll set out to try a new way of traveling, slower and with less of an impact on the environment. We plan to seek out inspiring people with sustainable stories all over Europe, most likely starting in Norway, while I transition back to freelance life again. I'm a skilled writer and editor, passionate about sustainable travel, slow travel, road trips, and tech.
