About Helen
Saltwater and ink undoubtedly run through my veins. Born on a big island -Australia, to Greek parents from a tiny, remote North Aegean island, I declared my love for journalism at a young age. After graduating from the University of Queensland and learning the ropes of reporting at a Brisbane regional newspaper, I decamped for Athens in 1996, so I could more readily globe-trot. I'm a freelance travel journalist, sailor and diehard beach bum with insider Greece expertise. I write about islands, coastal destinations, sailing, yachting, small ship cruising, food, fitness, well-being and sustainable travel. While I adore the Mediterranean, I'm equally drawn to tropical destinations, particularly those of the Caribbean and Latin America.
