Fifteen-year-old Jason Krafft was lucky to come away with only 11 stitches after being attacked by a shark while he was surfing near East London on the Wild Coast. The Daily Dispatch reported that he felt the shark bit him on his left foot while he was waiting for waves with his brother off Chinsta East beach on Saturday. Krafft said he instinctively used his left hand to punch hard underneath the water, and once free he jumped onto his board and paddled to safety. The extent of his lacerations didn’t become clear to him until he was back on the beach. His father told Daily Dispatch that the incident would not keep him from surfing in the future.
